Clipchamp is Microsoft's easy video editor: a timeline in Edge or Chrome, or an app on Windows, with templates, stock and AI tools such as captions and voiceovers. Cutfac has no timeline to learn. You point at the moment that's wrong, say what to change, and your own coding agent makes the edit on your Mac.

Plans and prices checked on: October 28, 2026. We make Cutfac, so read this with that in mind. Every claim about the other product links to its own pages below. If something there has changed, tell us and we'll fix it.

## Editing on a timeline, or asking for the change

Clipchamp is made for people who haven't edited before. You drop clips, images and audio on a timeline, add text, transitions and filters, and pick from templates and royalty-free stock. AI tools take on the tedious parts: captions in over 80 languages, voiceovers from text, and removing pauses and filler words. You still arrange the video yourself.

Cutfac hands the editing to your coding agent. You play the video, select the range or box the part of the frame you mean, and type what's wrong. The agent gets a clip of that range, the frame with your box on it and the timecodes, edits the files with ffmpeg and renders a new version. You play the old and new versions side by side and keep one.

## What happens to your footage

With a personal account, Clipchamp's help center says your media isn't uploaded to a server for processing: it's processed on your computer and leaves it only if you use a sharing option or content backup. With a work or school account, media and project files are backed up to your organization's OneDrive or SharePoint automatically.

Cutfac keeps each video as a folder of plain files and YAML on your Mac. Cutfac doesn't receive your videos, and its terms claim no rights to them. Your agent does send what it reads to its own provider, Anthropic or OpenAI, under that provider's terms.

## General-purpose, or made for your app

Clipchamp makes any kind of video, and most of what it offers is for that: templates, stock and a recorder for your screen and webcam.

Cutfac is narrower. It learns your app first from your site, your store page or videos you like, and writes what it finds into a file every run reads. Formats turn what works into rules the agent repeats, and every render is checked against upload rules and its format: length, resolution, aspect ratio, codec, frame rate and audio sync.

## Other free Clipchamp alternatives on a Mac

Clipchamp has no Mac app, so on a Mac it runs in Edge or Chrome. If you'd rather edit on a timeline in an app, these cost nothing to start.

- iMovie: Apple's free editor, only for Mac and installed from the Mac App Store. A basic timeline for simple edits.
- DaVinci Resolve: a free version for Mac, Windows and Linux that edits 8-bit video up to 60 fps and Ultra HD.
- Cutfac: for when you'd rather not edit on a timeline at all and the video is about your own app. The first videos are free, with no watermark.

## Which to pick

### Pick Clipchamp if

- You're new to editing and want a simple timeline with templates and stock.
- You're on Windows, or want to edit in the browser.
- You already pay for Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, which brings Premium.
- You don't use a coding agent.

### Pick Cutfac if

- You'd rather say what's wrong than arrange clips on a timeline.
- You already use Claude Code or Codex and pay for Claude or ChatGPT.
- You work on a Mac and want a native app, with your footage in a folder as plain files.
- You make videos for your own app and want a format you can repeat.
- You want source code you can read and build yourself.

## Questions

### Is Cutfac a Clipchamp alternative?

For short-form videos about your own app, yes. It isn't a general-purpose editor: there are no templates, stock library or screen recorder, and it runs only on macOS.

### Does Clipchamp work on a Mac?

In a browser, yes: Clipchamp asks for the latest desktop version of Edge or Chrome. Its app is for Windows 10 and 11, and there's no Mac app.

### What's a free Clipchamp alternative for Mac?

If you want a timeline in an app, iMovie is free from Apple and DaVinci Resolve has a free version. If you'd rather have your coding agent make the edits, Cutfac is free for 3 videos per Mac with every feature and no watermark.

### Can I use both?

Yes. Cutfac's renders are ordinary video files in a folder on your Mac, so you can bring one into Clipchamp for captions, stock or a voiceover.
