Drop in AVIF images and get JPGs for apps, editors and upload forms that don't take AVIF. Several at once is fine, and nothing leaves your browser.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

## How to use it

1. **Add AVIF images.** Drop one or several. Your browser decodes them.
2. **Pick the quality.** High suits most photos; Smaller file trades some detail for size.
3. **Download.** Save a single JPG, or all of them in one ZIP.

## What an AVIF file is

AVIF stores an image compressed with AV1, the video codec, inside the same kind of container as HEIC. Websites use it because the files are small, so an image saved from a browser can end in .avif. Current Chrome, Firefox and Safari open it, but many editors, older apps and upload forms don't.

## What changes in the JPG

AVIF compresses far better than JPG, so expect the JPG to be larger for the same look. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.

AVIF can hold HDR and wide-gamut color; the JPG is standard 8-bit color, so very bright highlights come out flatter. An animated AVIF becomes its first frame.

## Questions

### Are my images uploaded?

No. Your browser decodes the AVIF and writes the JPG; nothing is sent anywhere.

### Why is the JPG bigger than the AVIF?

AVIF compresses better. Pick Smaller file if size matters more than detail.

### Why does my AVIF fail to open?

The browser does the decoding, so an old browser can't read AVIF. Try a current Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

### Can I keep the transparent background?

Not in JPG. Convert AVIF to PNG instead, which keeps it.
