Drop in a Story image to check its shape and resolution, see where text is safe from the profile row and buttons, and crop it to 1080 × 1920. Or download a template to design on.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

## How to use it

1. **Add an image.** Drop a JPG or PNG. It isn't uploaded. To start from scratch, download the template.
2. **Check the safe zone.** The outline marks the area clear of the top, bottom and sides, where text and logos stay visible.
3. **Download to fit.** Crop it from the middle to 1080 × 1920 or 1440 × 2560 as a JPG.

## Instagram Story size

Stories fill a phone screen top to bottom, so they're 9:16. Meta's specs for Story ads recommend 1080 × 1920 pixels and give 600 × 1067 as the minimum; its Ads Guide also lists 1440 × 2560 for image ads. Instagram doesn't publish separate numbers for regular Stories, and the same 9:16 sizes are what fill the screen there too.

An image that isn't 9:16 won't fill the screen as it is, so crop it to 9:16 before you post if you want edge to edge.

## Story safe zones

Meta asks advertisers to keep roughly the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side free of text, logos and other key elements, so the profile row and buttons don't cover them. At 1080 × 1920 that's about 269 pixels at the top, 672 at the bottom and 65 on each side.

The zone is set out for ads, but it's a safe rule for any Story: keep what people must read inside the outline.

## Designing with the template

The template is a 1080 × 1920 PNG that's clear in the safe zone and shaded outside it. Put it as the top layer in Canva, Figma or Photoshop, design underneath, then hide it before you export.

## Questions

### What size is an Instagram Story?

9:16, and 1080 × 1920 pixels is the size Meta recommends. 1440 × 2560 is sharper; anything under 600 × 1067 looks soft.

### Where's the safe zone on a Story?

Inside roughly the top 14%, bottom 35% and 6% on each side, which Meta asks Story ads to keep clear of text and logos. The outline on the preview marks it.

### Is a Story the same size as a Reel?

Yes, both are 9:16 at 1080 × 1920, but their buttons sit in different places. For Reels, use the Reels safe zone checker.

### Is my image uploaded?

No. It's checked and cropped in your browser, and the template is drawn there too.
