Drop in JPG photos and get PNGs for an app, editor or upload form that asks for PNG. Several at once is fine, and the files never leave your browser.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

## How to use it

1. **Add JPG images.** Drop one or several. They're converted as soon as they're in.
2. **Check the list.** Each PNG shows its size in pixels and the file size before and after.
3. **Download.** Save a single PNG, or all of them in one ZIP.

## What PNG does and doesn't fix

A JPG's compression already happened when it was saved, and PNG can't bring back detail that was dropped. The PNG shows exactly the same picture.

What PNG gives you is a lossless file: you can edit and save it as often as you like without it compressing again, and many design apps and some upload forms ask for it.

## Size and transparency

Expect the PNG to be several times larger than the JPG, because it stores every pixel exactly. If you only need a smaller file, convert the other way.

PNG can hold transparency, but converting doesn't make anything transparent: the photo's background is still there. Remove it in an editor after converting.

## On a Mac with sips

macOS comes with sips, which converts from Terminal:

- sips -s format png photo.jpg --out photo.png

## Questions

### Are my images uploaded?

No. Each JPG is decoded and written as PNG in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.

### Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. The PNG shows the same pixels as the JPG. It just won't lose any more when you edit and save it again.

### Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG compresses without loss, and photos have too much fine detail for that to make them small.

### Will my photo come out sideways?

No. Phones often store a photo sideways with a note to turn it; the PNG is saved the way the photo is shown.

### Does it make the background transparent?

No. Converting keeps the background. Remove it in an editor afterwards; the PNG can then hold the transparency.

### Can I convert many JPG files at once?

Yes. Drop them together, and the download button saves every PNG in one ZIP.
