Drop in an MP3, set where the part you want starts and ends, and download it. An MP3 is cut without re-encoding, so the sound stays as it was.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

## How to use it

1. **Add the audio.** An MP3, or an M4A, WAV, FLAC or other file your browser plays.
2. **Set the start and end.** Type times like 0:30, or play to the spot and tap Use current time.
3. **Cut and download.** Play the piece to check it, then download the MP3.

## Cutting without re-encoding

An MP3 is a run of short frames, about 26 milliseconds each at 44.1 kHz. The cutter keeps the frames between your start and end and copies them as they are, so nothing is decoded or encoded again and the sound is unchanged. The cut lands on the frame boundary next to your time, within about 26 milliseconds.

Other audio, such as M4A, WAV or FLAC, is encoded to a 192 kbps MP3.

## Using the piece

A short MP3 works as an intro, a sound for a video, or a clip to share. Android phones can use it as a ringtone; iPhone ringtones need Apple's M4R format, which this tool doesn't make.

## With ffmpeg

The same cut on the command line, copied without re-encoding:

- ffmpeg -ss 0:30 -to 1:00 -i song.mp3 -c copy clip.mp3

## Questions

### Is my audio uploaded?

No. The file is read and the piece is written in your browser.

### Does cutting an MP3 lower the quality?

No. The frames you keep are copied as they are. Only other formats are encoded, to 192 kbps MP3.

### Can I make a ringtone?

For Android, yes: set the MP3 as a ringtone in your phone's sound settings. iPhone ringtones use M4R, which this tool doesn't make.

### Can I add a fade in or fade out?

No. The cutter keeps the sound as it is. Use an audio editor for fades.
