Drop in a video to see its resolution, aspect ratio, format, frame rate and bitrate next to what YouTube recommends, and how it fits YouTube's player.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

## How to use it

1. **Add a video.** Drop the file you plan to upload. It's read in your browser, not uploaded.
2. **Read the checks.** Each line shows what the file has; anything that needs a look gets one short note.
3. **Fix before uploading.** Re-export with the settings the notes point to, then check again.

## YouTube video sizes

On a computer YouTube's player is 16:9, and YouTube lists these 16:9 sizes: 3840 × 2160 (2160p, 4K), 2560 × 1440 (1440p), 1920 × 1080 (1080p), 1280 × 720 (720p), then 854 × 480, 640 × 360 and 426 × 240. 7680 × 4320 (8K) is listed too.

A video in another shape still plays: the player adjusts to it, and YouTube asks you not to add black bars yourself. A square or vertical video of up to 3 minutes uploads as a Short.

## Recommended upload settings

YouTube recommends MP4 with the index at the front, H.264 video, and AAC-LC or Opus audio, at the frame rate you recorded. Common rates are 24, 25, 30, 48, 50 and 60 fps, and others are accepted.

- 2160p: 35–45 Mbps at up to 30 fps, 53–68 Mbps at 48–60 fps.
- 1440p: 16 Mbps, or 24 Mbps at 48–60 fps.
- 1080p: 8 Mbps, or 12 Mbps at 48–60 fps.
- 720p: 5 Mbps, or 7.5 Mbps at 48–60 fps.

## Questions

### What size should a YouTube video be?

16:9, such as 1920 × 1080 (1080p) or 3840 × 2160 (4K). For a Short, square or vertical such as 1080 × 1920, up to 3 minutes.

### What's the best aspect ratio for YouTube?

16:9 fills the player on a computer. Other ratios still play; the player adjusts to them, so don't add black bars.

### Why is my bitrate marked low?

It's under what YouTube recommends for that resolution and frame rate. Export again at the bitrate in the note, or higher.

### Will my vertical video become a Short?

If it's square or vertical and 3 minutes or shorter, yes. Longer vertical videos upload as regular videos.

### Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the file's details itself. Nothing is sent anywhere.
