Cutfac vs Screen Studio: a Screen Studio alternative for short-form app videos

Screen Studio is a screen recorder for Mac: it records your screen, adds zooms where you clicked and smooths the cursor, and you adjust the result on its timeline. Cutfac doesn't record your screen. It has your own coding agent make short-form videos about your app from what it learns and the footage you give it, and you point at what to change.

Recording a demo, or making videos from your app

Screen Studio starts when you record. It captures your screen with Apple's ScreenCaptureKit, saves cursor movement separately and adds the cursor back while you edit, so a shaky cursor becomes a smooth glide and zooms follow where you clicked. You trim, cut and speed up parts on its timeline, and can edit by transcript, add captions and switch between camera layouts. For a polished walkthrough of your product, that does most of the work for you.

Cutfac starts from your app instead. It learns your app first from your site, your store page or videos you like, and writes what it finds into a file every run reads. Your agent writes a brief and a shot list for you to okay, makes the video from the footage you give it with ffmpeg, and checks its own frames. Formats turn what works into rules the agent repeats, so the next video comes out in the same shape.

Adjusting by hand, or asking for the change

In Screen Studio you fix things on the timeline: drag a zoom, change the cursor size after recording, cut a pause. The automatic effects get you close and you finish by hand.

In Cutfac you play the video, select the range or box the part of the frame you mean, and type what's wrong. The agent gets a clip of that range, the frame with your box on it and the timecodes, edits the files and renders a new version. You play the old and new versions side by side and keep one.

Where your recordings go

Screen Studio says it processes recordings on your Mac and works offline. Transcription runs on your Mac with Whisper or Apple's speech recognition, and cloud transcription is optional. Shareable links upload the video when you make one, and AI voiceover sends the text you type off your Mac to make the voice.

Cutfac keeps each video as a folder of plain files and YAML on your Mac. Cutfac doesn't receive your videos, and its terms claim no rights to them. Your agent does send what it reads to its own provider, Anthropic or OpenAI, under that provider's terms.
