More about this tool
- 1
Add a video
MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV: any file your browser can read, with a sound track.
- 2
Pick a bitrate
128 kbps for speech, 192 kbps for music and mixes, 320 kbps for the highest MP3 quality.
- 3
Convert and download
Check the MP3 in the player, then download it.
The video's format decides what audio you start from. The MP3 is encoded from that, so it helps to know:
- MP4 and MOV from phones, cameras and editors: usually AAC.
- WebM, from browser recordings and many web tools: usually Opus.
- MKV: whatever the maker chose, often AAC or Opus. Codecs a browser can't decode, such as AC-3 or DTS in some MKV files, won't convert here; use ffmpeg instead.
- A video with no sound track, such as a screen recording made without a microphone, has nothing to convert. The tool tells you so.
- Turn a recorded talk, stream or video call into a podcast episode or a file to transcribe.
- Pull a voiceover you recorded on camera to re-use under a different edit.
- Keep a melody you hummed or played into your phone's camera as a song draft.
For a folder of videos or a long file, ffmpeg does the same. -q:a 2 asks LAME for variable bitrate, about 190 kbps on average for music:
- ffmpeg -i input.webm -vn -c:a libmp3lame -q:a 2 audio.mp3
- ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vn -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k audio.mp3
