More about this tool
- 1
Add an MP4
MOV, WebM and other videos your browser can play work too. Nothing is uploaded.
- 2
Convert to WAV
The audio track is decoded to 16-bit PCM. The video is dropped.

Check and download
Play the WAV, check the sample rate and length, and download it.
A WAV file with 16-bit PCM samples, at the video's own sample rate (usually 48 kHz for camera and phone video, 44.1 kHz for some exports) and its own channel count. Nothing is resampled or remixed.
WAV is uncompressed, so its size depends only on length: about 11 MB a minute at 48 kHz stereo and 10.6 MB at 44.1 kHz. A WAV over 4 GB, around six hours of stereo, is past what the format can hold.
Choose WAV when the audio goes on to more work. Editing a compressed file and saving it again adds a generation of loss each time; WAV doesn't.
- Loading dialogue into a DAW to clean up noise or level it.
- Speech-to-text tools and older editors that only take WAV.
- Archiving the sound of a project before you delete the video.
- Just listening or sharing? Keep the original track instead: it's far smaller and sounds the same.
ffmpeg writes 16-bit WAV by default:
- ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vn audio.wav
- For only seconds 2 to 5: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vn -ss 2 -to 5 part.wav

Questions
No. The MP4 is read and the WAV is written in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
16-bit, at the same sample rate and channel count as the video's audio. The tool shows both once it's done.
It's as good as the audio in the MP4. That audio is usually AAC, which is already compressed; WAV keeps every bit of it without adding more loss, but it can't bring back what AAC removed.
AAC in an MP4 is compressed to about a tenth of the size. WAV stores every sample, which is what editors want.
